Racketeers Pioneers Secure Narrow Victory Over CES Sharks
Racketeers Pioneers secured a closely fought 3–2 victory over CES Sharks in an exciting B League encounter.
Dafydd Lewis got Racketeers Pioneers off to a winning start with a hard-fought 3–2 victory over Mike Hayler. Lewis lost the opening game 13–15 but fought back to take the next two, before securing the match with 15–6 and 15–7 wins in the fourth and fifth games.
Fraser Dorling then extended the Racketeers Pioneers' lead with a convincing 3–0 victory over David O'Neill, winning 15–8, 15–11, 15–7.
Aleyn Taggart made it three wins in a row for Racketeers Pioneers with a 3–0 victory over Mark Stratford, taking the games 15–8, 15–13, 15–12.
CES Sharks fought back through Lee Alexander, who defeated Greg Ansara 3–2 in another five-game contest. Alexander took the first and third games, but Ansara responded to level the match before eventually winning 15–9 in the fourth. Alexander then held his nerve to take the deciding game 15–9.
In the final rubber, Ed Batty restored the advantage for Racketeers Pioneers with a 3–2 victory over Phil Whittam. Batty recovered from losing the first and third games to win the fourth and fifth, securing the overall 3–2 team victory.
A Welcome Return for Ed Batty
The match also marked a welcome return to competitive squash for Ed Batty, who has been away from the sport for a lengthy period due to football commitments. Batty made his return in impressive fashion, securing a hard-fought 3–2 victory over Phil Whittam to help Racketeers Pioneers claim the overall match 3–2.
Mavericks Complete Clean Sweep Against Outcasts
Mavericks produced an impressive 5–0 victory over Outcasts, winning all five matches.
Nathan Quilliam opened proceedings with a 3–1 victory over Leighton Ginty. After sharing the opening two games, Quilliam took control to win the third 18–16 before closing out the match 15–3.
Robert Smith then defeated Jonathan Gower-Jackson 3–1, winning 15–10, 11–15, 15–11, 15–8.
Magnus Lamprecht continued Mavericks' strong performance with a straight-games victory over Peter Ginty, winning all three games 15–8.
Dasa Brynjolffssen followed with another 3–0 victory, defeating Elliot Henson 15–6, 15–9, 15–6.
Harrison Callow completed the clean sweep with a 3–0 win over Max Birchall, taking the games 15–11, 17–15, 15–4.
The results underline the strength and competitiveness of the B League, with Mavericks securing maximum points and Racketeers Pioneers narrowly winning a five-match thriller against CES Sharks.
